The Illustrated Mum By Jacqueline Wilson

The 'Illustrated Mum' is a good and memorable book that is written by Jacqueline Wilson. The Book gets through to children as it shows them how to get through difficult situations and how to apprectiate the people you have in your lives, that you sometimes take for granted.

The Book is about a single mother who has two children called Star and Dolphin. Dolphin loves her mother and Star just finds her irritating and is continuously annoyed at her because she is covered in tatoos from head to toe. Marigold, Dolphin's and Star's mum, goes partying all night and drinks alcohol. This affects her children badly because they worrry about her alot. When Marigold goes out to a concert she finds Star's long lost dad. When Mickey asks Star to live with him It causes their family to tear apart but difficult situations lie onward for Dolphin as she ends up looking after her mum. But how will Dolphin bring her family back together...

My favourite extract in the story is,
'I swivelled my head to try to change my expression. I saw a blurry view of the class, lots of them grinning and giggling, but then I saw a flash of glass. I blinked and saw Oliver clearly, his face white and tense, his eyes big behind his specs. He looked so sorry for me that I couldn't bear it. I suddenly started howling.'
I like this extract because it has alot of description of how Dolphin is feeling and other people's emotions around her.

My favourite character is Dolphin because she is a considerate, caring girl that doesn't just think about herself but all her family especially when they feel depressed.

My Star Rating would be :
 5!!!
